School Cafeteria Worker “Gets Creative” with Kids’ Bananas

Stacey Truman, a mother and employee at Kingston Primary School in Virginia, understands how impactful your words can be on your children. Working in the school cafeteria for nine years, she has seen many children grow and embark on their journeys into the real world.

As both a mother and a school employee, Stacey feels a maternal instinct toward the students who come through the lunch line. She wanted to do something meaningful to inspire and uplift them. Drawing inspiration from a routine with her kids, she created “Talking Bananas.”

 

Every day, the school cafeteria worker would include motivational messages in her children’s lunches, realizing that these simple words had the power to positively influence their mindsetShe began writing similar uplifting messages on bananas in the school cafeteria, aiming to provide students with some encouragement during their lunch breaks.

 

Word about Stacey’s thoughtful act spread quickly. Parents and school administrators took notice. One day, the principal found a banana with the message “Be your best self,” and shared a picture and story on Twitter. The post went viral, with parents nationwide praising Stacey’s gesture.

The words children hear growing up significantly influence their future. They need encouragement and positivity to see the world as a place full of opportunities. Teaching them determination and resilience against challenges is vital.
