Message Hidden on a Grocery Receipt

I accidentally left my receipt at the self-checkout. A woman hurried over and gently waved it at me. “You dropped this,” she said with a warm smile. I thanked her, slipped it into my bag, and went home without another thought.

Later that evening, while unpacking groceries, I noticed something unusual. On the back of the receipt, in quick, slanted handwriting, were the words: “Check your back seat.”

My heart skipped. Was it a warning? Had I lost something? Pushing aside the sudden rush of nerves, I stepped outside and opened my car door.

There, tucked into the corner of the back seat, was my wallet — the one I had been looking for all morning.

Relief washed over me. She must have spotted it while I was loading groceries but couldn’t reach me in time, so she left a note instead.

That simple act stayed with me. In a world where people often hurry past one another, she chose to pause and help. It reminded me that kindness doesn’t have to be loud or dramatic — sometimes it’s written quietly on the back of a receipt, restoring your faith exactly when you need it.
