An elderly farmer once went to the market and noticed a beautifully framed mirror for sale. Having never seen his own reflection like that before, he was fascinated and decided to buy it.
After spending more money than he probably should have, he felt a little embarrassed — so he hid the mirror up in the hayloft of the barn. Every day after that, he would quietly slip away, climb up to the loft, and admire his reflection. He’d straighten his hair, grin proudly, and then tuck the mirror back into the hay.
Before long, his wife began noticing changes. He seemed unusually cheerful and more concerned about his appearance. Suspicion started to grow.
One day, she secretly followed him to the barn and watched as he gazed into the frame, adjusted his hair, smiled widely, and carefully hid it again before leaving.
As soon as he was gone, she climbed up into the loft and searched through the hay until she found it. She lifted the frame and looked closely at the reflection staring back at her.
After a long pause, she frowned and muttered,
“So that’s the old hag he’s been sneaking off to see!” 😄
