Back in the 1940s, the movie theater in Nevada, Iowa was the heart of the community. Everyone, from kids to adults, flocked there to watch films and make memories. One teen, caught up in a romantic moment in the balcony, lost his wallet—and it vanished for decades.
Fast-forward seventy years: the theater, originally built in the 1920s, had seen better days. Entrepreneur Larry Sloan purchased it with plans to transform it into The Talent Factory, a mix of comedy club and performance venue. During renovations, while removing old hardwood floors in the third-floor balcony, contractors spotted something tucked away on a ledge: a long-forgotten brown wallet.
Opening it revealed a perfectly preserved snapshot of 1944. Inside were WWII ration stamps, a handwritten ID card, a calendar marking the year, and faded photographs—all belonging to 15-year-old Clare McIntosh, who likely dropped it during that fateful balcony moment.
Thanks to Sloan’s investigative skills, tracking Clare down wasn’t difficult. Amazingly, he was still alive, now reunited with a piece of his teenage past that had remained untouched for more than seven decades. The discovery turned a routine renovation into a remarkable journey through history and memory.
Larry Sloan contacted the now 85-year-old Clare McIntosh to let him know a wallet of his had been found. At first, McIntosh was confused—after all, he still carried his own wallet. That’s when Sloan explained that this particular wallet had been lost back in 1944.
Seeing the long-lost wallet after more than seven decades left Clare in disbelief. He was thrilled to reconnect with the items inside, especially the old photographs, which brought back memories from his youth.
