My Boyfriend’s ‘Memory Loss’ Costs Me Every Dinner—You Won’t Believe His Excuse

A 32-year-old woman had been dating her 39-year-old boyfriend for some months when she noticed a pattern whenever they went out to eat. After some time, she got tired of it and made a decision to take action.

This woman had been in a relationship with her boyfriend, who has two young children, for nine months. They had a big argument about something he kept doing that upset her.

The woman, feeling confused and upset, took to Reddit to ask if her reaction was wrong. People online shared their opinions about her boyfriend and offered their thoughts on the situation.

The woman worried about how she acted because it happened in front of her boyfriend’s children, and he called her selfish for not thinking about them.
She shared that her boyfriend’s kids loved going to restaurants, so they dined out with them once a week. However, every time they went out to eat, her boyfriend would “forget” his card at home.

Each time he forgot his card, the woman was forced to pay the bill. At first, it didn’t bother her, but recently, she felt broke from paying for dinner so often in the last month.

One night, she had just received payment from her second part-time job. Then she was going out to dinner with her boyfriend and his kids again. Knowing he often “forgot” his wallet, she texted him to remind him to bring it. He laughed off the text.

When they arrived at the restaurant, his kids ordered lots of new and pricey items from the menu. Before starting eating, she asked her boyfriend about his wallet to make sure he remembered it this time. When she asked, he looked shocked and checked his pockets.

After he had searched for a while, he looked at her with shame and said, “I guess I forgot it in the other pair of jeans I thought I was going to wear.”

After that, he asked her if she could pay for dinner this time, but the woman had had enough. She grabbed her things, ready to leave the restaurant without eating.

When he saw her leaving, he asked what she was doing.
She told him she wasn’t going to pay for him and his kids again and walked out.

Later, her boyfriend called and told her she was selfish for leaving him and his children in that situation. She replied that she didn’t think it was fair to keep paying for them every time they went out.

He yelled that he had forgotten his wallet and that she had no sympathy for him or his kids. He also told her he had to cancel their food order and take his children home hungry because he couldn’t pay for their meals.

Both argued, and he said she needed to rethink how she treated his children. He insisted she was willing to let them go hungry because of her selfishness.

When she shared her story on Reddit, she mentioned that her boyfriend was still mad at her for what happened at dinner. Many Reddit users agreed that he was taking advantage of her.

What would you have done if you were the woman? Was she right to walk out on her boyfriend and his kids after he forgot his wallet, or should she have paid for them and talked about it later?
