Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Monday that Mexico has agreed to send 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in return for a one-month halt to President Donald Trump’s promised tariffs.
About twelve hours before the tariffs were scheduled to go into effect, Sheinbaum announced the move on social media Monday morning.
During their conversation on Monday, Trump and Sheinbaum decided that the United States would increase its efforts to stop the flow of firearms into Mexico and that Mexico would do more to stop drug trafficking into the United States.
Sheinbaum added that discussions on broader trade and security problems were being initiated between U.S. and Mexican officials.Read More Below
