Up until Richard’s unexplained disappearance one day, Sally and Richard had a happy marriage. Years passed while she searched nonstop for him, and Sally suffered greatly. Sally battled remorse over the thought of moving on even if other men showed interest in her. Richard had her heart.
Putting all into her engineering job, Sally progressed through the ranks and found comfort in her work. Her national trips offered a diversion from her grief. She happened to run upon Richard during a neighborhood church service one Sunday. They briefly touched on feelings she had believed she had buried.
Richard made a private appointment with Sally later to explain his absence. He acknowledged that although he had never remarried, he still felt something for her, he was still in love with Megan, his high school sweetheart. This disclosure gutted Sally, leaving her feeling betrayed and sad once more.
Choosing to go on with her life, Sally invited her encouraging buddy Jake to supper. She knew she had to let go of the past and welcome the future even if she was nervous about beginning over.
Sally thought on the difficulties of love and loss when she got back home. Notwithstanding her suffering, she came to see that life presented fresh starts and chances for fulfillment. Jake at her side, she made the first move toward acceptance and healing, prepared to welcome whatever was ahead.
